Stokley, Susee pace Trojans at Wilsonville
The John F. Kennedy High School cross country team saw its first action in more than a week Friday when they traveled north to take part in the Sandelie Golf Course Classic in Wilsonville.
In its first year of competition, the race was held along fairways and trails in and around the nine-hole course, providing an easier course that led to many personal records among the Trojan competitors.
Junior Lauren Stokley led the girls team with a 41st-place finish in 20:16.8. The personal record for Stokley was the fourth time this season that she has set a PR in the 5K. The time was 10 seconds faster than her race on Oct. 3 when she placed fourth at Stayton Middle School.
Teammate Cheyla Moranchel took 138th with a time of 22:11.
For the boys team, Dalton Susee led the Trojans to a 24th-place finish out of 32 teams. The event allowed the Kennedy runners to test their skills against some of the largest and best teams in the state, as the event was dominated by 4A, 5A and 6A teams from the Willamette Valley.
Susee was the highest-placing Trojan runner at the event, placing 38th with a PR-time of 16:40.1. He was one of six Kennedy runners who set new career-bests on the fast course.
Susee was followed by Adrian Parra (59th, 16:58.0), Noe Jines (116th, 17:35.3), John Savage (188th, 18:25.3) and Brent Lang (232nd, 19:33.2).
The Trojans continue the season this week against like-sized schools in the PacWest-West Valley Challenge Thursday at Bush Pasture Park in Salem. The race is the final competition for the Trojans before the district championships on Oct. 24.
