Kennedy girls finish first in Tri-River/PacWest meet

Juniors Lauren Stokley and Loghan Sprauer combine for five victories


by: PHIL HAWKINS - Kennedy distance runner Lauren Stokley placed first in the 800 and 1,500 meter races Thursday at JFK High School.The Kennedy girls did what they do best Thursday at JFK High?School: win.

The Trojans combined for victories in eight events to finish on top of the six-team track meet composed of teams from the PacWest and Tri-River conferences.

Loghan Sprauer led the team with wins in the 100 meters (13.09) and 200 meters (27.34), helping the Trojans claim six running events. Sprauer also took first in the high jump with a height of 5-2, marking the fifth time this season the junior athlete has won the event.

Sprauer joined teammates Megan Wall, Sarah Therkelsen and Mariah Garcia to claim the best time in the 4x400 relay after crossing the finish line in 4:50.43.

Fellow junior Lauren Stokley added a pair of victories in the distance events, taking the top spot in the 800 with a time of 2:42.27 and in the 1,500 with a time of 5:33.23.

The girls pulled down another win in the 100 hurdles, where Amelia Grosjacques took the top spot in 17.41, followed by runner-up teammate Madison Sprauer in 18.24.

Madison Sprauer went on to place first in the pole vault with a height of 7-6.

Madison Sprauer, Grosjacques, Brown and Garcia also took second in the 4x100 with a time of 54.69

For the boys team, John Savage took the Trojans’ lone first-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:14.34.

The Kennedy boys scored the majority of their points by claiming 11 second-place finishes en route to placing third overall as a team.

Cole Galtes hit new personal bests with a pair of second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (18.37) and the 300 hurdles (45.51).

Bishop Mitchel took second in the high jump (5-10) and long jump (18-10) and set a new PR in the pole vault with a third-place height of 9-6.

Noe Jines also set a PR in the 3,000, finishing second with a time of 10:08.91.

The Trojans will next compete Thursday at Stayton High School.
