North Marion baseball team takes back-to-back games from Gladstone

BASEBALL

North Marion

The North Marion baseball team lost the season series against league rival La Salle, but returned to top form by winning a pair of low-scoring games against Gladstone in three games last week.

The No. 2 Huskies opened the week on April 21 with 10-9 walk-off loss to No. 3 La Salle, losing the season series to the rival Falcons.

The Huskies opened the game with an early lead after Nat Barrell drove in Josiah Ramon to put the team up 1-0, but three North Marion errors led to three La Salle runs as the Falcons took a 3-1 lead after two innings.

Barrell struck again in the third with a two-run blast over the left field fence to ignite a five-run rally. The Huskies held a 6-3 lead through the next two innings before La Salle put up five runs in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead.

North Marion eventually knotted the score at 9-9 heading into the bottom of the seventh before La Salle scored the game-winning run to take the ‘W’ and the season series.

The Huskies had little time to recover from the loss before traveling to Gladstone the next day to take on the No. 9 Warriors.

North Marion responded with a 2-1 win to right the ship and added a 3-1 victory three days later on Friday to win the series against Gladstone.

Tristan Wampole hit a two-RBI single to open the second game against Gladstone as the Huskies scored all three of their runs in the first frame.

North Marion kept Gladstone scoreless until the top of the first when the Warriors tacked on their only run, but the Huskies shut out their opponents the rest of the way to pick up the win.

The Huskies (14-3, 4-2 Tri-River) enter the week tied for second in the conference with Estacada (8-8, 4-2). The two league rivals were scheduled to play at North Marion Monday followed by a second game at Estacada Wednesday.

North Marion will wrap up the week Thursday at Madras.
