Scorpions steamroll competition for U16 tournament title

The Scorpions went undefeated in five games and outscored opponents by a 24-3 margin over the three-day competition to take home the title in the U16 Boys Silver bracket with a resounding 5-1 victory in the championship game July 20.

The Scorpions advanced the playoffs by cutting through pool play with relative ease.

The team opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over FCP 1998 on July 18 and followed with a 4-0 victory later that evening against LASC Crystal.

The team gave up its only goal of pool play the next afternoon, but made up for it with eight goals in an 8-1 victory over WTFC B98 to win in their group and advance as the tournament’s top seed into the semifinals. The Scorpions faced stiffer competition in the playoff bracket, but still had little problem in pulling out a 4-1 win over the LASC Beaverton Futbol Club on July 20 to advance to the final.

The Scorpions capped their successful weekend later in the afternoon with a 5-1 win over WTFC 98 to claim the championship in their age group.

The Beaverton Cup is held yearly at soccer fields across the Portland Metro area. It attracts dozens of boys and girls club teams from Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington and California from U9 through U19.
