SCCA Super Tour racing is coming to Portland International Raceway this weekend, May 19-21. The Hoosier Racing Tire Super Tour is the official national championship qualification series for the Sports Car Club of America.
The event will draw over 100 racers from the west coast states and east to the Rocky Mountains for three days of qualifying and racing. Drivers from the Portland area will make about half of the contestants. Drivers compete across 28 classes and seven race groups in cars ranging from Porsches and Corvettes to sleek open-cockpit vessels.
Spectator entry is free all weekend. On-track activities begin around 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Racing begins at 11 a.m. and continues to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour consists of 11 race weekends at 11 premier tracks across the United States. Competitors earn points toward the Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Points Championship, and the series serves as a gateway to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs being held in September, 2017 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
