Bode receives USAF Academy appointment

Nick Bode has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.

The USAFA is a four-year service academy that offers 30 different majors with an emphasis on engineering. On graduation, cadets are commissioned officers and will be future leaders in the USAF. Bode’s goal is to become a fighter pilot in the USAF.

Bode became interested in attending USAFA as a sophomore and began the application process the summer of his junior year. Congressman Kurt Schrader nominated him to the academy.

He will begin basic training June 27 and then begin the four-year engineering core curriculum on Aug. 28. He hopes to swim for the USAFA Falcon swim team.

Bode will be obligated to serve in the active duty Air Force for 10 years at flying assignments worldwide.

Bode is the son of Kevin and Adrienne Bode of West Linn. He graduated from West Linn High School on June 5.
