Lions hold wine raffle to raise scholarship money

Tickets are $10 each, and the drawing is Nov. 1

The West Linn Lions Service Club has kicked off its 2012 scholarship drive for West Linn High School seniors graduating in June 2013.

This year, a fourth annual wine raffle will raise more than $6,000 to add to the $39,000 in scholarships granted by the club over the last seven years.

The scholarships have been awarded to those intending to major in education, health care or technology and for students with special needs, or those with outstanding community service backgrounds. Scholarships will be awarded at the West Linn High School Evening of Excellence next June.

The club will sell 700 raffle tickets ($10 per ticket or 11 tickets for $100) with 30 winners to be drawn at the Nov. 1 club meeting (need not be present to win). The first ticket drawn will receive wine valued at $434. The value for each winner then declines to $100 (donor suggested retail price) each for the later winners. The total retail value of the 23 cases donated is more than $4,800.

Ron Adams, West Linn Lions raffle chairman (503-636-8444), or any West Linn Lions Club member, can answer questions about the wines, ticket sales, scholarship selection and how winners will be contacted.
