New WL-WV Crystal Apple award gets variety of nominees

Nearly 200 nominations were made for award

More than 180 nominations were submitted for the first Crystal Apple awards in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

The West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation, the Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce and the West Linn Chamber of Commerce teamed up to celebrate excellent educators in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

For several weeks the group sought nominations for the awards and received 189, with 112 of those being teachers. All primary, middle and high schools in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District were represented and two winners have been selected, one from West Linn and one from Wilsonville.

The Crystal Apple nomination process asked community members to describe how a teacher exemplifies excellence in the district, and how the teacher contributes to the districts mission. The district’s mission is: “How do we create learning communities for the greatest thinkers and most thoughtful people ... for the world?”

The awards will be announced today at an invitation-only banquet designed to celebrate excellence in teaching.
