Girls get going

Junior Girl Scout Troop 40539 volunteers at the White Oak Savanna

by: ED SCHWARZ - A little rain can't keep these girls down from volunteering in their community. Junior Girl Scout Troop 40539 planted snowberry and wildrose plants at the White Oak Savanna. West Linn girls rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty in the rain, muck and mire on Oct. 27 at the White Oak Savanna in West Linn.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 40539 brought 19 girls — grades fourth through fifth — from Willamette and Trillium primary schools and Three Rivers Charter School to do restoration work.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 40539 performs a community service project each month as selected by the members and their parents.

At the White Oak Savanna, the girls planted two native species, snowberry and wildrose plants.

The plants were provided at a discount by Scholls Valley Native Nursery and paid for by the nonprofit Neighbors for a Livable West Linn.
