Willamette Primary School students volunteer outdoors

Students from Willamette Primary School got their hands dirty at the White Oak Savanna. The group of fourth- and fifth-graders from Scot Wavra and Philip Anderson’s classrooms helped plant snowberry and wild roses, which are natives to the natural area.

The students also placed decorated rocks, which were painted with sayings like: “White Oak Savanna,” “Look for the Deer Family” and “Enjoy Nature.” The group of about 55 students have volunteered on five different occasions.

“Our work tied nicely into themes around geology, life science, stewardship, community service and a sense of place among other things,” Wavra said.
