Gain a head start at West Linn High School

Parents of the class of 2017: Is your new freshman nervous about transitioning to high school? Could your student benefit from learning organizational strategies, discovering how to talk with teachers about progress or knowing more about what it takes to be ready for college?

Would your student like to know where he or she should go on the first day of school in the fall?

A class called Jumpstart is being offered to students entering ninth grade at West Linn High School in the fall. Jumpstart is designed to prepare for the transition from middle to high school. Offered by three high school teachers, the class combines some coursework in science, math, English and social studies and is designed to teach high-school skills and habits more than a curriculum foundation in those courses. Students who complete the course will enter high school with a class credit already on their transcript.

Jumpstart will meet from Mondays to Thursdays, July 1 to 26, with no class on July 4 or 5. The class fee is $50. Contact Mark Martens, assistant principal, at 503-673-7805 for more information.
