Donations now being accepted for Nov. 16 fundraiser

Michele Beyer is ready for graduation day 2014.

It’s not that she is in a hurry to see the third of her four children leave West Linn High School. The reason she is ready, so soon, is that Beyer is the chairwoman, along with Cinda Lonsway, of the 2014 grad night committee. And she says that most of the planning is already done, including the selection of the top-secret location, which won’t be revealed until after the new grads turn their tassels in June.

“The location is known to three of us. Nobody else knows about it,” Beyer said, except for herself, Lonsway and the treasurer, who wrote a check to reserve the space.

West Linn’s Class of 2014 will be treated to the school’s 27th annual grad party.

“It’s been around a while,” Beyer said. “The party happens right after graduation and it’s billed as substance-free. It’s always been our way of keeping the kids safe after graduation.”

Immediately following the ceremony, the new graduates will board buses for transportation to the secret location, where they will enjoy a final night of fun and games with their classmates.

“I’ve done this twice before and it goes so fast,” Beyer said of the all-night event. “It’s such a fun night. There are so many activities they can do and prizes they can win.”

With that number of students to feed and entertain, the party depends on fundraising throughout the year.

The year’s first major fundraiser will be a rummage sale, scheduled for Nov. 16 at Rosemont Ridge Middle School. The committee is collecting donations now for that sale. Through Nov. 8, donations can be dropped at Beyer’s house, located at 3058 Ridge Lane in West Linn. No appointment is necessary, Beyer says, although she encourages donors to call her at 503-537-8705 if they are dropping off large donations or if it is raining. A list of donations that cannot be accepted, such as mattresses, encyclopedias and infant furniture, is included on the committee website at

Volunteers are needed for the rummage sale and other fundraising events, including the holiday tour of West Linn homes in December and two brunch and silent auction events scheduled for April at the Oregon Golf Club. The holiday homes tour this year will include a craft boutique. Crafters who live in West Linn and want information about offering handmade craft items for sale can contact Beyer at This email address is being protected from spambots. “We made it really easy this year,” Beyer said. “All of our fundraising chairs are in place, so ... we are not looking for people to be in charge. We just need lots of workers.”

The grad night committee meets at the high school on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and last an hour or less. All Class of 2014 parents are invited to attend a meeting or to sign up to volunteer online at
