West Linn art teachers honored

National Art Education Association honors Pass, Kieling

KielingThe National Art Education Association has singled out two West Linn teachers for special awards in 2014.

Rosemont Ridge art teacher Linda Kieling will receive the Distinguised Service Within the Profession award. The award recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions in previous years to the field of art education and to national and state associations. The honoree is selected through peer review.

NAEA also honors an outstanding member from each state or province whose service and contribution to art education merits recognition and acclaim. This year, Lynn Pass, a former West Linn High School art teacher who retired in 2013, was named Oregon Art Educator of the Year after a peer review of nominations.

Both women are outstanding in the field of art education, NAEA Presidnet Dennin Inhulsen said.

"(They exemplify) the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars and advocates who give their best to the students and their profession," Inhulsen said.

Kieling and Pass will receive their awards at the NAEA national convention in San Diego March 29-31.

NAEA is the professional art association for art educators. Members include elementary, secondary, middle level and high school art teachers as well as university and college professors, education directors in school districts and fine arts museums and teaching artists.
