Music in the Park starts tonight

West Linn’s Music in the Park concert series starts tonight and continues each Thursday until the end of August. The concerts will be held at Tanner Creek Park, located at 3456 Parker Road, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 9: Linda Hornbuckle Band;
  • Aug. 16: David Gerald Band;

    Dog Days of Summer set

    The second annual Dog Days of Summer is next week, a pet-centric event held in connection with the West Linn Farmers’ Market.

    The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. and will include wiener dog races, Mad About Organics, Deaf Dogs of Oregon, Trails End Labradoodles, Twinkie’s Treats du Jour, Smart Paws Academy, Pet Hair Picker Upper, Pics of the Litters, VCA West Linn and Project Pooch.

    Solar basics workshop offered

    A workshop about how solar energy works and opportunities to make solar energy affordable will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

    The workshop is part of the Solarize West Linn-Lake Oswego project and will be held at the Robinwood Station, located at 3706 Cedar Oak Drive in West Linn.     Buy pavers for city’s centennial

    The Willamette Centennial Committee is selling engraved pavers to be placed in the median strip on Willamette Falls Drive or as part of a new path in Willamette Park.

    Learn a new language

    The West Linn Public Library subscribes to Livemocha, a web-based tutor that offers courses in 38 languages. To use Livemocha from home, you must have a Clackamas County library card in good standing.

    Test knowledge with a trivia night

    The West Linn Public Library is holding an adult trivia night on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m.

    Team up with your friends and family and see how much trivia you know. Each team must consist of three to six people. Trivia questions will be on a wide range of topics (think Trivial Pursuit). There will be a prize after each of the 10 rounds and a grand prize at the end of the evening. Snacks and drinks will be provided. There is no need to pre-register; just show up. The library is located at 1595 Burns St. This event is part of the Adult Summer Reading Program.

    Catch a flick in the park

    The city of West Linn is offering free movies on Friday evenings throughout the city in July and August. Movies start at dusk, and families are welcomed into the park to enjoy picnics, popcorn and movies.

    This event is professionally planned and managed by the West Linn Parks and Recreation Department. Movies were selected using online polling.

    File for office to serve the city

    The city of West Linn is accepting applications for three terms that expire Dec. 31 — the position of mayor and two city councilor positions. The general election for these positions is scheduled for Nov. 6. The individuals who are elected will begin serving at the first council meeting in January 2013 and will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2016.

    Utility assistance available

    The city of West Linn offers reduced water, sewer, surface water, street and park maintenance charges for low-income residents. Income limitations are defined by the Department of Health and Human Services Poverty Guidelines.

    Learn to drive this summer

    The West Linn Parks and Recreation Department is offering driver’s education classes this summer at West Linn High School and Wilsonville High School. The city is offering the Wilsonville High School program at the request of the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The classes are taught in cooperation with Clackamas Community College and are Oregon Department of Transportation-approved. The classes consist of more than 30 hours of learning in the classroom plus 12 hours behind the wheel. Drive times scheduled to fit student schedules. Seating is limited, and pre-registration is required.

    The following items are required to register: a photocopy of valid instruction permit or driver’s license (front and back), a completed driver education enrollment form and payment in the form of money order, check or Visa or MasterCard.
