Zero waste is goal of annual Robinwood picnic

Neighbors invited to annual picnic

The annual Robinwood neighborhood picnic will attempt to be zero waste this year.

This popular neighborhood event will be held at Robinwood Park on Saturday, Aug. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. Neighbors will come together to meet new neighbors and reunite with old friends.

The picnic organizers are reviewing the traditional menu of burgers, hot dogs, etc., to see how their purchases can avoid waste in packaging.

Ice cream cones will be scooped and served rather than ice cream sandwiches to avoid disposable packaging. Durable dishes will be used instead of paper plates. In addition, besides a generous food donation, Market of Choice has agreed to add any leftover food waste to the market’s commercial compost program. Linn City Pub is donating bus tubs to be used at the event and has offered to wash the dishes afterwards.

Robinwood Neighborhood Association invites all neighbors and encourages them to walk or bike to the event since parking is limited. Bring a side dish or dessert to share and consider bringing your own picnic set of dishes.

Come prepared to meet new friends, eat good food and not throw anything away.
