Run for your life

West Linn women host second annual Zombie Apocalypse Run

The second annual Zombie Apocalypse Trail Run will be held Oct. 13 at Heiser Farms in Dayton. This race is unlike any race in the nation. Participants chase after each other in a zombie apocalyptic setting, with theatrics along the race course to thrill and scare.

Participants register as either zombies or survivors. Each survivor will receive a belt with two flags on it and a two-minute head start. After the two minutes are up, the zombies are unleashed and chase after survivors to “infect” them by grabbing their flags.

The racecourse and theatrics planned for the course are a secret, but will be sure to entertain runners and spectators alike. Spectators will be able to watch the Zombie Apocalypse Run via live Web cameras streaming video onto large screens in the spectator area. Plus, all of those on the farm will have access to view the pumpkin cannons, tour and enjoy the corn maze, petting zoo, barn theater, train and hayrides, as well as the pumpkin patch all day at Heiser Farms.

Last year’s inaugural event sold out, and this year’s event is expected to bring 2,500 runners and up to 4,000 spectators.

Two West Linn women, Debbie Parsons and Heather Robbins, both mothers and athletic enthusiasts, created the event. They created the Zombie Apocalypse Run last August and it sold out within two months.

The schedule of events includes a children’s costume contest, a children’s dash, an adult costume contest, a 1.5-mile trail run and a 5k trail run, race awards and an after-race party.
