WL man dies in rollover accident on Highway 43

by: SUBMITTED - Lake Oswego firefighters work to extricate a man pinned inside of his wrecked car on Highway 43 early Monday.A 24-year-old West Linn man has died after suffering injuries when his vehicle struck a tree and rolled several times down Highway 43.

The accident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday north of Lake Oswego, according to the Lake Oswego Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, near Breyman Avenue, to find Nicholas Allen Dolder inside of the 1997 Acura TL sedan with his safety belt fastened and airbags deployed.

Battalion Chief David Morris, a Lake Oswego Fire Department spokesman, said there was significant damage to the entire vehicle and firefighters had to use hydraulic extrication tools to cut it open and get the patient out.

Dolder was the only person in the vehicle. He was taken to OHSU Hospital in Portland with life-threatening injuries, the fire department reported, where he later died.

Highway 43 was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated and the vehicle was removed.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said excessive speed and alcohol use contributed to the crash.
