Residents dressed up in their worst, showing off their heinous holiday sweaters to partake in the Ugly Holiday Sweater Dash held prior to the parade.

Men, women and children sported snowflakes, reindeer, Santa hats, working lights and even a knit holiday goose. From vests, to hats, to stripey tights, to a full-on elf costume — the competition was fierce.

Residents, city officials, businesses and merrymakers alike filled the streets with holiday cheer in the historic Willamette district. This year’s theme, “Magic on Main Street,” featured Santa as the grand marshal. Children lined up on the curbs awaiting the assortment of candy tossed from the floats and warmed up with hot chocolate.

After the parade, children lined up a the Willamette Fire Station to sit on Santa’s lap, give him their wish lists and enjoy cocoa, cider and cookies.

The day also included the second annual historic Willamette progressive holiday crawl. Participating businesses offering special discounted items. Mrs. Claus could be found at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe. The Willamette General Store hosted a tree lighting and carolers later in the day along with carriage rides.
