Sheriff's office partners with AlertID to track neighborhood safety issues

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Las Vegas AlertID, a private company that provides up-to-date information about crime, predatory sex offenders and other public-safety issues affecting local neighborhoods.

The sheriff’s office is the first law-enforcement agency in Oregon to make AlertID available to the community it serves. Residents can sign up for this free service online at alertid.com/clackamas.

AlertID takes data from the sheriff’s office’s internal dispatch and reporting system and makes it available through a Web-based interface accessible on computers, tablets and smartphones. After registering with AlertID, users can see a map of their community with markers that indicate the location and type of crimes that recently have been reported.

In addition to providing Clackamas County residents with current information about criminal activity, registered sex offenders, terrorism, natural disasters, severe weather and other threats to public safety, AlertID includes a secure social network that allows its users to share ideas and information with neighbors to address these concerns.

The service provides a channel for residents to connect with the sheriff’s office, as well as state and federal authorities.

AlertID also includes a feature called “My Family Wallet” that allows users to store photographs and vital statistics about their children or other loved ones that can be immediately transmitted to authorities in the event they become lost or separated.

“I am hopeful that the citizens of Clackamas County will embrace this new technology,” Sheriff Craig Roberts said. “As with any online network, it becomes more powerful as more people sign up and begin sharing information. This project embodies the motto of the sheriff’s office — that ‘working together, we can make a difference.’”

The West Linn Police Department offers a similar service with Crimereports.com on its website at westlinnoregon.gov/police/crime-reports-west-linn.
