Proceeds go toward restoration of property

by: SUBMITTED - The White Oak Savanna is 14 acres of preserved and restored land in West Linn.The second annual Run/Walk for the White Oak Savanna will be April 14 at 9 a.m. at Rosemont Ridge Middle School in West Linn, 20001 Salamo Road.

A 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. and the one-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. Cost is $22.50 for those registered and $25 day of the race.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the restoration and acquisition of the White Oak Savanna in West Linn.

The group Neighbors for a Livable West Linn has been working on preserving and restoring the White Oak Savanna for nine years.

Volunteers have put in more than 5,300 hours of work at the Savanna. So far 14 acres are preserved and restored and there are 5.65 acres left to include.

This event is the biggest White Oak Savanna fundraiser of the year.

National and local vendors have donated prizes, refreshments and monetary support for the run/walk. Prizes include two coupons for a pair of shoes from Keen footwear; two $220 jackets from Columbia Sportswear; four bags from Nike Global Equipment; a tennis racquet and balls and a bag from Wilson Tennis; hats, sack packs and wristbands from Adidas; a massage gift certificate from Elements Massage; and an alignment gift certificate from the Les Schwab of West Linn.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each age category. T-shirts will be provided to all participants.

For the runners and the walkers there will be fresh fruit from Whole Foods, water from Albertsons, coffee and tea from Peet’s Coffee and fresh-baked bread from Kathie Halicki.
