Rowdy soccer fans assault LO Timbers supporter

He spoke to KOIN Local 6 Monday in Keizer, where he works.A Lake Oswego man was reportedly attacked by a mob of rowdy soccer fans supporting an opposing team on Sunday.

James Decker, 40, who lives in Lake Oswego and teaches at Whiteaker Middle School in Keizer, told police he was on his way to the Portland Timbers game against the San Jose Earthquakes at Jeld-Wen Field when a group of San Jose fans walked by his car, which was stopped at a red light at Northwest Sixth Avenue and Burnside Street.

Decker said he held up his scarf and yelled at them.

“Next thing I know a lady detaches herself from the group, was running over, dives in my car, hits me in the jaw and tries to steal my scarf,” he told KOIN 6 News. “At that moment, about a dozen guys came around the car, one jumped on my roof, jumped up and down, smashed my windshield in, another three guys opened up the passenger door and started punching me in the face.”

Bystanders came to his aid, but by the time Portland police arrived the Earthquake fans had blended in with the large crowd who went to the game.

Portland police arrived to find the windshield of Decker’s 2007 Saab four-door caved in. Decker did not need medical treatment immediately after the attack.by: KOIN 6 NEWS - The windshield of James Decker's car was damaged after opposing soccer fans reportedly assaulted him Sunday in Portland.

The woman who first punched Decker is described as Hispanic, in her 20s, about 5-foot-6 and with a heavy build.

She was wearing a blue “Earthquakes” sweatshirt and dark pants.

Most of the other suspects were wearing scarves covering their faces, police said.
