Reading program run through Aug. 31

by: SUBMITTED - 'Dig Into Reading'Summer is just around the corner and along with the longer, hotter days, popsicles, sprinklers and road trips comes West Linn Public Library’s annual summer reading program. This year’s theme for kids is “Dig Into Reading” and the library will be encouraging kids to do just that all summer long by offering a bounty of fantastic programs and incentives.

The importance of reading throughout the summer months to a child’s literacy development cannot be overstated. It is essential for children to be exposed to books and reading during the break from school so as not to not slip behind when they return to class in the fall. This is why participating in the public library’s reading program is so important for kids of all ages — not to mention, it will be a lot of fun!

The West Linn Public Library kids summer reading program will run through Aug. 31 and is open to children through grade five. The library also offers reading programs for teens and adults throughout the summer.

How do we sign up for the kids summer reading program? Come by the West Linn Public Library during our open hours to pick up your reading packets. Each packet will contain a reading log to track your reading and various incentive coupons from our sponsors.

How do we keep track of our reading throughout the summer? To complete the summer reading program, each child must read, or be read to, for at least 20 minutes a day for 20 days. Once your reading log is completely filled out you can return it to the library and pick up your prizes. It’s that simple.

What other exciting things are going on at the West Linn Public Library this summer? I am glad you asked!
