West Linn man killed in Sunday accident
Single-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 47, near Banks
A West Linn man died in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning near Banks.
Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into the cause of the accident on Highway 47 underneath the Highway 26 overpass north of Banks.
On July 14 at about 7 a.m., an off-duty police officer drove upon the scene, where a preliminary investigation indicates Rodger Michael Hepburn, 49, was driving the vehicle at a high rate of speed northbound when it veered left and struck a bridge pillar head-on. The vehicle split apart on impact and debris covered the area.
Hepburn, who was alone, was deceased at the scene. There were no known witnesses to the crash when it happened.
State police troopers from the Banks and St. Helens offices are continuing the investigation in conjunction with the Washington County Medical Examiner. The section of highway was closed about six hours during the investigation and scene clearance. Police were assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Washington County Medical Examiner, Banks Fire District 13, Metro West Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
