West Linn Public Library has all the ingredients for a special evening

Everyone recognizes the importance of date night; a night to spend quality time with your someone special. It’s a time to reconnect. Leave the stress of the world behind and enjoy and relax together.

Making time for a date night, on the other hand, can be a challenge. Life gets in the way and getting out of the house for an evening can seem almost impossible. This is when you need to think out of the box.

Why not stay in and have a date night right in your own home? With a little creativity and help from the West Linn Public Library, you can save money, leave the traffic behind and transform your own home into the ultimate date night venue. It’s dinner and a movie with a twist.

You can turn your kitchen into a French cafe, British bistro or Mexican hacienda. With hundreds of cookbooks in our collection, you can be as creative and daring with your dinner as you want. What better way to spend time quality together than teaming up to cook a fabulous meal and then sharing it together?

To complete date night, you can head over to our media room for a movie. With hundreds of DVDs in every genre you can think of, you can create a night to remember.

Why not create a theme for the evening? Check out “Julie and Julia” starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, along with Julia Childs’ book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” Create her legendary Boeuf Bourguignon, and finish with her delicious Biscuit au Beurre (Butter Sponge Cake). She even has instructions on how to whip up your own homemade frosting.

Or have an evening celebrating the royal birth and check out the “The King’s Speech” starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, along with Hilaire Walden’s “The Great British Cookbook.” For starters try Leeks with Mustard Dressing, and as your main course, the classic Roast Beef With Yorkshire Pudding is a good bet.

If you’re in the mood for Mexican, check out Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in “The Mexican” and whip something up from Kelley Cleary Coffeen’s cookbook, “300 Best Taco Recipes.” From Crab, Spinach and Artichoke Tacos, Rolled Veggie Tacos With Spicy Asian Sauce to Crispy Turkey Tacos, this book has something to please everyone. The sky’s the limit to the ideas you can come up with and the themes you can create.
