2014 WLHS Graduation

Class of 2014 graduates and their supporters gather at Chiles Center June 3

The school’s 98th annual commencement ceremony was held at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center in North Portland. Under the direction of Kevin Egan, the WLHS symphonic and concert bands provided prelude music as family members and well-wishers began to fill the room. The bands then performed the “Theme from Pomp and Circumstance” to guide the graduating seniors down the aisle.

Kevin Edwards, Allison Schroeder and Hailey Westover, all members of the graduating class, led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. by: TIDINGS PHOTO: VERN UYETAKE - Student body president Ellen Ward makes introductory remarks.Associated Student Body President Ellen Ward offered welcoming remarks and provided key introductions, including that of Superintendent Bill Rhoades. The superintendent and the school board chairman, Keith Steele, each addressed the graduating seniors and offered their congratulations.

The WLHS symphonic choir performed “I Was Here,” by Beyonce Knowles and arranged by choir director Barbara Fontana. Following that musical interlude, class valedictorian Hunter Bosson addressed his classmates and their supporters.

Ward Lewis, a language arts teacher at West Linn, was recognized as the year’s Distinguished Teacher. Following Lewis’s remarks, Principal Lou Bailey formally presented the Class of 2014 to the onlookers. Bailey and Rhoades presented the new graduates with their diplomas as teachers Annie Kaiser and Barb Murray read their names aloud.

At a signal from Keeley Anderson, Mackenzie Baker and Tabitha Davis, the class of 2014 turned the tassels on their mortarboards as a group to signify their new status as West Linn High School graduates. They left the auditorium to begin their celebrations with family and friends.
