Council welcomes returning Mayor Russ Axelrod and two new councilors

TIDINGS PHOTOS: PATRICK MALEE - Russ Axelrod was sworn in as mayor Jan. 3, marking the beginning of his first full term after filling out the end of former Mayor John Kovashs tenure. The West Linn City Council gathered Monday, Jan. 3 for what was a largely celebratory meeting to welcome two new councilors and one returning face.

Mayor Russ Axelrod was sworn in for his first full term after winning re-election, while Teri Cummings and Rich Sakelik took their oaths as City Councilors — replacing outgoing councilors Jenni Tan and Thomas Frank.

All three will serve four-year terms ending in 2021. Teri Cummings is no stranger to the City Council, this being her third separate term at City Hall. Rich Sakelik was sworn in as a first-time City Councilor.

"I just want to thank all of West Linn for this opportunity," Axelrod said. "I'm looking forward to this next session — the opportunity for a full session as mayor. I just invite everyone to come and work with us, visit us, bring your thoughts, bring your ideas. I think you're going to find that this is going to be a great council."

The council's first regular meeting of the year is set for Monday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. A crowd filled City Council chambers to welcome the new members.
