Historic area street signs installed
City places 22 signs at 11 intersections in Willamette area
The West Linn centennial celebration might be over, but the city is still finding new ways to honor its history.
Workers recently finished installing a total of 22 historic area street signs at 11 intersections in the Willamette historic district. The brown street signs are each marked with a Willamette Historic District designation.
The Willamette Historic District, which was already designated as a local district, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in the fall of 2009, Associate City Planner Sara Javoronok said. This was something residents in the neighborhood, along with the city, had worked on for years, and they wanted to celebrate and commemorate this with street signs placed in the district.
After initial city designs failed to catch the interest of residents, the historic review board presented its own designs in 2013 one of which was selected to be used for the signs.
The first sign was installed Dec. 31 and shortly after all of the signs were complete and installed.Add a comment
