Willing workers wanted
Join a work crew at the high school's annual cleanup Sunday
West Linn High School is hosting its seventh annual cleanup day Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the high school campus, located at 5464 West A St.
Adult and student volunteers are needed to clean up parking lots, weed the grounds, spread bark, pressure wash high-use areas, including the athletic field and stadium, and generally prepare the grounds for the start of the new school year.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring wheelbarrows, pressure washers, gas blowers and rakes. Garden gloves are a must. Trucks and trailers are needed for hauling debris away.
We need all the help we can get, event organizer Shelley Perry said. The idea is that we prepare the grounds to make a good first impression. We also work on the field for the student athletes and staff.
Perry said she enlisted football coaches to help spread the word. All ages are welcome to attend, although children younger than 12 should attend with a parent. Students needing community service hours will receive a form they can use to gain credit for their time. Parents, staff and community members all are invited to attend.
Come for whatever time works, Perry said, anytime between 1 and 5.
Volunteers will be given a list of tasks that organizers expect they can accomplish in four or fewer hours.
I think its huge ... for people to come in and have a good first impression, Perry said. Its awfully nice to start the year.
