Independent businesses give feeling of community

I’ve been bemoaning the commercial creep of the December holidays into the purity of Thanksgiving. But, I recently realized that one of the things I am thankful for is the independent businesses that give West Linn a feeling of community instead of cookie-cutter-suburb. So, in that spirit, I’d like to give thanks to some of the businesses, organizations and people that make West Linn the place I’m proud to call home.

• Thanks to the staff at Willamette Coffee House for warm smiles and warm drinks every morning.

• Thanks to the teachers and staff at SunGarden Montessori and Willamette Primary for teaching my children basic skills in a context of community and responsibility.

• Thanks to the amazing staff at Funtime Daycare for being a second loving home for my children.

•Thanks to Mean Street Pizza, San Blas Mexican Restaurant and Thai Linn for making my son’s eyes light up when I say, “Let’s have a special Mama and son lunch.”

• Thanks to Sachi Wellness and Meditation Momma for Thursday nights to retreat, reflect and recharge.

• Thanks to the West Linn MOMS Club for traditions that my family loves, like the Spooky Stroll and Santa Brunch.

• Thanks to the residents of Vista Ridge and the family that does the haunted garage on Debok for keeping the spirit of small-town Halloween alive.

• Thanks to Willamette United Soccer Club and the volunteer coaches for teaching skills, leadership and sportsmanship.

• Thanks to our city for prioritizing and maintaining a huge number of fantastic parks, a great library and events like the farmers market and the Old Time Fair.

• Thanks to our law enforcement for helping keep this city a safe and pleasant place to call home.
