Community supports fight against LOT water project

As one of the many disillusioned with our city government’s lack of will and backbone to stand against the Lake Oswego-Tigard juggernaut, I finally have something positive to share. On May 11 I was lucky to witness what is the real definition of community. That night neighbors and friends came together to support our neighborhoods at the Celebrate West Linn Event at Robinwood Station.

The weather was perfect, food was excellent and the music was fantastic. I speak for many when I say it was a great event. This is what community is about.Without a doubt, the best thing about the night was the knowledge that this crowd was united in its stand for West Linn and its neighborhoods. In the face of the city’s acquiescence to Lake Oswego-Tigard’s demands and our elected officials’ inability to pass up a dip in their $5 million trough, it’s tempting to give up and find another place to call home.

But Saturday’s event has given me new hope that the people who actually live here and care about West Linn’s livability are not giving up. The money raised at Saturday’s event will drive the LUBA appeal of the city council’s approval of Lake Oswego-Tigard’s water project in West Linn.

It is heartening to know that people from throughout the community are willing and able to support the neighborhood in its David-and-Goliath fight against Lake Oswego-Tigard. Many thanks to the local businesses and individuals who helped make this event a success and a huge thank you to the people who came out to support West Linn’s livability.
