STOP supports business

I am writing in response to the recent article (“Threatened by the opposition?” June 13) regarding alleged problems that supposedly have surfaced between local businesses and residents who are opposed to the Lake Oswego-Tigard water treatment plant project.

It is apparent that (City Manager) Chris Jordan and LOT representatives are attempting to vilify the residents who have given so much of their time, energy and resources to fight this project and protect their neighborhood.

Here are some facts:

  • STOP is a staunch supporter of the West Linn business community.
  • Under no condition does STOP advocate or promote boycotting or any other negative action toward any local business be they for or against us. No business has anything to “fear” from STOP.
  • All of those who worked so hard on the recent fundraiser are grateful for all the support that we received from local businesses and have received nothing but positive feedback from those who contributed. There was never any attempt to disguise our purpose, which was to raise funds for our continuing fight to keep LOT out of our neighborhood and our city.
  • Calling the police will not be necessary.
  • Mr. Jordan’s comment to this effect is absurd and insulting. How desperate he must be to resort to tactics of this sort.
