Support aquatic center measure by voting yes

The West Linn community has discussed an indoor pool and recreation center for more than 30 years. This will be the first time it’s been put on the ballot for a vote.

The West Linn Pool and Recreation Center will be: A great asset for the community providing a place for healthy entertainment — an investment in year-round indoor physical activity for all ages.

Once we pass it, it will be designed and programmed by the community to run without causing a financial drain on the city budget.

Please vote yes on 3-432 this Nov. 5.

Oregon State University made the right choice

As a business leader and employer in the Portland area and long-time Oregonian, I think Oregon State’s move to create an independent institutional board is a smart choice.

Oregon State actively works to support and advance a culture of strength and vitality in Oregon from its work on the environment to its commitment to healthy people and a strong economy.

OSU understands the things that are the foundation of a vibrant and thriving community.

While OSU is already deeply connected in every county in the state, the new board will create the space to deepen relationships, expand networks and advance the education of members of our communities, inside the classroom and through OSU’s extension and experiment stations.

I’m energized by the potential I see here and applaud OSU’s choice to take this thoughtful step forward.

Make-A-Wish needs airline donations to send kids on dream trips

Millions of frequent flier miles are wasted each year by travelers who let their miles expire. Those airline miles can be used to help grant local children’s wishes through Make-A-Wish Oregon’s Wishes in Flight program.

Every traveler holds the ticket to a child’s wish — a wish like Ellen’s, whose adventure to Hawaii was filled with pleasant surprises, including an up-close encounter with a sea turtle while snorkeling.

For an active young lady battling cancer, this trip gave her a chance to have fun and relax with her family.

About 75 percent of the wishes granted by Make-A-Wish in Oregon and Southwest Washington involve traveling — whether it’s to meet a celebrity, go to their favorite theme park or reconnect with a close friend who moved away.

You can be part of a life-affirming wish of child with life-threatening medical condition by helping Make-A-Wish Oregon raise 8 million miles in the month of August.

Donating airline miles through Make-A-Wish Oregon’s Wishes in Flight is easy — and the miles never expire once they’re in the organization’s account. Help fulfill a child’s dream. To make a donation, visit oregon.wish.org.
