Once again, the Fourth of July event in West Linn was a great celebration. Attendees who braved the 85-plus degree heat were rewarded with a spectacular concert and fireworks show, and a whole lot of fun at Willamette Park.

As Mathew, a local student, sang the National Anthem, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue raised the United States flag. Thank you, Piseth and all the TVF&R personnel who attended.

“Alice, when the anthem was sung, all stood up as one,” Danny Shreiber said to me. “It was awesome!”

Yes, it was!

Thank you to State Senator Richard Devlin, who opened the ceremony by sharing his deep knowledge, and respect, for our shared history and the U.S. Constitution.

Thank you State Representative Julie Parrish for gracing the event with your winsome smile. You are truly dedicated to serving us, the members of your district.

Country Wide, from Wolf Radio, entertained the crowd with country tunes. Thank you guys! They are booked for 2015 — back by popular demand.

Thank you to all the vendors, and congratulations on doing record business. They will be ready next year with their culinary offerings. SharkBait Hawaiian shave ice ran out of ice, but a second ice batch soon arrived. The West Linn Rotary kettle corn aroma drew lines of people eager to sample their sweet wares, while raising funds to benefit our high schools.

Thank you to Rachel of the Clackamas Juvenile Court.

Thank you, sponsors, who give to our community with gracious generosity.

And a huge thank you is order to the residents around the park’s vicinity, where cars were parked, for sharing spaces; and to the drivers being cautious of the neighborhood.

Pat your backs!

The process in organizing the West Linn Fourth of July celebration is, to me, a worthy community production. When everyone is happy, amicable and being good neighbors, I am rewarded! Looking ahead for 2015, scheduling and preparations are already in progress.

Alice Richmond, a West Linn resident, is the volunteer organizer and manager of the annual Fourth of July event at Willamette Park.
