Mr. Roth was born in Los Angeles and moved to Lake Oswego as a freshman in high school. He graduated from Lake Oswego High School then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and a master’s degree from Western Oregon University. While at Willamette he was active in Kappa Sigma fraternity and the Willamette Singers.

Mr. Roth moved to West Linn after his marriage to Elaine Yandle-Roth in 1986. The couple had a son, Charles, whom they call Ben, born in 1994.

Mr. Roth taught elementary and middle school music for the North Santiam School district for 32 years and founded the American Roots Music Festival to raise funds for the district’s music programs. After retiring, he volunteered for eight years in the music programs at Cedaroak and Rosemont Ridge schools in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; son, Ben; mother, Nancy Roth; sister, Kathy Rogers of Carmel; brother, Dan Roth of Spokane; sister, Lisa McDonald of Lake Oswego; and a large extended family. His father, Robert Roth, preceded him in death.

A celebration of Mr. Roth’s life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on March 16 in Cummins Hall at Christ Episcopal Church in Lake Oswego.
