Swimmers split with Southridge, wrap up regular season

The girls edge the Skyhawks with district meet this Friday and Saturday

West Linn's swim teams finished the regular season with a non-league dual meet against a strong squad from Southridge last week and the Lions now turn their eyes to districts this Friday and Saturday.

The West Linn girls ground out a tough victory, picking up wins in the majority of events.

The Lions captured the 200 medley relay with strong swims from Laura Laderoute, Robin Pinger, Sidney Pinger and Brie Balsbough.

Laderoute then cruised to a win by nearly seven seconds in the 200 freestyle, winning in 2:03.19.

Robin Pinger scored a narrow victory in the 200 individual medley, topping Southridge's best finisher by just more than a second.

While the Lions picked up wins in many events, Southridge's depth kept the Skyhawks in the meet all evening.

Balbough and Kylie Norris helped out their team with a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle.

Balsbough then had little time to recover before scoring an easy win in the 100 freestyle in 57.81 seconds.

Sidney Pinger picked up an important win for the Lions in the 500, topping Southridge's top competitor by a little more than six seconds.

Laderoute would win again for West Linn, lowering her best time of the year in the backstroke with a victory in 1:00.26.

Robin Pinger then put together her best race of the season, taking more than half a second off her best time in the breast stroke to win in 1:10.95.

West Linn would seal the victory in the dual meet with the 400 freestyle relay team of Norris, Lauren Cramer, Sarah Cooper and Laderoute winning in 4:01.00.

For the boys, Southridge proved difficult to score against with an extremely talented and deep team.

Curtis Klein picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle, finishing under 1:50.

Ryan O'Leary would finish second in the 100 backstroke, nearly equaling his best time of the year.

The Lions continue to get steadily faster with only districts and state ahead on the schedule.
