West Linn advanced to the semifinals of the state basketball tournament for the second year in a row with a thrilling 51-50 victory over No. 4 Grant on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing by one point, senior Jarrod Howard knocked down a pair of free throws with 3.2 seconds left in the game, his only points of the game, and then picked off Grant's inbounds pass to seal the victory.

The Lions trailed for the majority of the contest before rallying in the fourth quarter and avenging an early-season loss to the Generals.

Ryan Shearmire led West Linn with 19 points and five blocks in the game.

The Lions move on for a rematch with No. 1 Lake Oswego at 3:15 p.m. on Friday at the Rose Garden.
