Girls golfers post best score of the year

With a complete line-up, the Lions cruise to another victory

The West Linn girls golf team returned to full strength and posted its lowest team score of the season on Monday at Langdon Farms. In ideal playing conditions, scores were low across the league and the Lions won by 35 strokes, in front of Canby and Lake Oswego who tied for second place.

Sarah Archuleta won medalist honors with a stellar round of 73, easily her best of the year. Her total was the lowest in the league by six strokes.

Tying for second overall was Amanda Elich who fired a 79. Kristin Elich and Chloe Barnes each fired rounds of 89. For Barnes, it was the first time this season that she has broken 90.

West Linn had a commanding lead in the league standings after capturing its fifth straight tournament.

Just one regular season tournament remains before districts. It will take place next week on the Lions' home course of Oregon Golf Club.

The West Linn boys posted another third place showing in their tournament at Stone Creek on Monday.

The Lions were led by CJ Sitton's solid round of 75. Hayden Coppedge was next with an even 80, Ryan Kelley shot 81 and Brett Bushnell shot an 84 to round out the team score.

West Linn's next league tournament will be at Oswego Lake Country Club next Monday with districts on the horizon.
