Golf teams wrap up regular season

The girls team finishes unbeaten in league with best score of the year

by: VERN UYETAKE - West Linn's Ryan Kelley fired a 79 at Oswego Lake Country Club, trying for his team's lowest round. The West Linn girls golf team wrapped up another perfect regular season on Monday at Oregon Golf Club, firing their best team score of the season in the process.

The Lions shot a 326 on the difficult course and won by more than 60 strokes.

West Linn had four of the lowest six individual scores in the league as well, led by medalist Sarah Archuleta's 76.

Her teammate Kristin Elich finished in a close second with a 77, her lowest round of the season, and tied with Canby's Krissy Peterson.

Amanda Elich was next with an 84 and Kirbi Havemann tie for her best round of the season with an 89.

Chloe Barnes shot a 91 which was just two strokes off her best score of the season.

The Lions put together another dominant regular season and appear to be playing some of their best golf as districts and state approach.

The district tournament will be at Stone Creek next week as the Lions face one more tune-up before competing at Quail Valley.

For the boys, West Linn wrapped up the regular season at Oswego Lake Country Club and shot a 322 as a team.

Ryan Kelley and Colin Bailey each shot 79 to tie for the team's low round. For Bailey, it was his first varsity tournament of the year.

CJ Sitton came in with an even 80 while Hayden Coppedge shot an 84 and Charlie Moore shot 87.

In one of the closest tournaments of the season, West Linn finished in fourth, just four strokes behind Canby and one stroke behind Lakeridge.

West Linn will compete in districts at Stone Creek next week as well and will look to qualify a few individuals for state at Trysting Tree in Corvallis.
