Track team battles OC as districts loom

West Linn took on a strong and deep Oregon City team in its penultimate dual meet last week as the boys and girls get set for districts next week.

In the boys meet, West Linn ran into a very strong sprinting corps from the Pioneers. As has been the case for much of the year, the Lions scored big points in the distance events. Roman Ollar edged out a victory in the 800, winning by less than three tenths of a second in 2:03.40.

The Lions would score a 1-2 finish in the 3000 led by Connor Cushman in 9:33.14. Teammate Allenson Gepford took second.

In the field, Drew Cribbs picked up another win in the javelin, edging out a trio of strong throwers from Oregon City with a toss of 161'6”.

Mario Mastrandrea and Ethan Terner would finish second and third in the triple jump.

For the girls, West Linn freshmen Juliana Guthner and Isabella Reicher went 1-2 in the 400 with Guthner winning in a time of 1:01.20.

Cailin Guerins, Rebecca Donnelly and Samantha Marioni would sweep the 800, going 1-2-3.

The Lions would also cruise to victory in both relays. The 4x100 team of Reicher, Guthner, Madison Leek and Cara Boucher won in just under 50 seconds while the 4x400 team of Reicher, Guthner, Kerry Plunkett and Emily Hamel won in 4:11.46.

In the field, Audrey Belisle won the javelin by a foot over Oregon City's top competitor.

Also last week, at the Jesuit Twilight Relays, West Linn's relay team of Guthner, Reicher, Leek and Boucher took second in the 4x200 and fifth in the 4x100.

West Linn wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday with a meet at Lakeridge against the Pacers, Grant and Clackamas.
