Softball team falls to Lincoln

The Lions bow out in the second round against the No. 1 seeded Cardinals

The West Linn softball team's season ended on a rainy afternoon at Jesuit High School against No. 1 seed Lincoln last week.

The Cardinals took advantage of their base-runners while the Lions couldn't come up with the big two-out hit in a 13-0 loss.

Briana Barzola, Caroline Freiling and Mackenzie Hartdegen walked to load the bases in the top of the first inning with one out but Lincoln's pitcher recorded a strikeout and fly out to end the threat.

Lincoln then loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning and an RBI single and a pair of sacrifice flies made it 3-0 early.

Leah Beyer and Barzola each walked and moved into scoring position in the second inning, but both were stranded.

Lincoln blew the game open in the bottom of the second posting six runs before the Lions got out of the inning by throwing a runner out at the plate.

A two-run home run in the third inning and two more runs in the bottom of the fourth made it 13-0, putting West Linn's season on the brink.

Again the Lions loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with Carly Savoy, Danielle Del Bene and Lenaya LeBlanc all walking before a final strikeout ended the threat.

Freiling had West Linn's lone hit in the game.
