Boys cross-country takes third at NW Classic

Roman Ollar cracks the top-five at the competitive meet

West Linn's boys cross-country team had a chance to see how it stacked up against some of the top competition in the state over the weekend and had the opportunity to run on the state meet course at Lane Community College in Eugene.

What the Lions found out was that they can more than hold their own and that this season's lofty expectations are warranted.

West Linn finished third in the highly competitive event, finishing only behind strong teams from Summit and Sheldon.

Roman Ollar also firmly established himself as one of the top runners in the state. He topped his previous best time by a second, finishing in 16:04 and taking fourth place individually.

Grayson Ollar was close behind in 15th place with a time of 16:28.

Conor Egan also had the best time of his career to date, jumping up as West Linn's No. 3 runner and taking 35th.

Michael Sullivan also cracked the top-50 for the Lions, followed by a strong run from Jacob Evans.

John Goetze also had a lifetime best finish as West Linn's No. 6 runner.

In the JV race, Colin Squires was the individual winner.

For the girls, Johanna Briscoe led the way, taking 26th place in 20:13. Emily Jordan was next for the Lions as she continues to lower her top time.

Cailin Guerins and Hanna Morford each finished in the top-100.

The NW Classic followed another impressive showing by the Lions at their home crossover meet last week.

The West Linn boys rolled to a win. Roman and Grayson Ollar crossed the line with nearly identical times, taking fourth and fifth place.

The Lions' depth carried the day over Reynolds, Barlow, Centennial and Lake Oswego. West Linn's Nos. 3-5 runners all finished in the top-10 with Evans, Squires and Egan finishing within just a few seconds of each other.

Johanna Briscoe cruised in the girls race, distancing herself from the field early and never looking back. She broke 20 minutes, finishing in 19:47 and winning by nearly 40 seconds.

Morford was next for the Lions with her best time of the season, followed by Guerins and Jordan.

Next up for West Linn is another crossover meet at Canby on Oct. 2.
