Roman Ollar wins meet at Sandelie and the boys take third as a team

by: VERN UYETAKE - West Linn runners try to find room at the start of last week's invitational at Sandelie Golf Course. Roman Ollar won the event individually and the Lions took third as a team.In their final tuneup before the district meet and against some strong competition, the West Linn boys cross-country team took advantage of a fast course at Sandelie, putting up some fast times and impressive results.

The boys finished in third place as a team, finishing only behind Mountain View and Skyview, Wash.

Roman Ollar was the overall winner in the race, finishing with a PR of 15:38.2. That time is the fifth fastest run in 6A this year.

Grayson Ollar was close behind in eight place, also setting a PR in 16:01.

Conor Egan was next for West Linn, finishing in 34th place and setting a PR himself with a time of 16:34. Just 10 seconds behind was Jacob Evans, also notching a PR.

John Goetze was West Linn's No. 5 runner and he also turned in his best-ever time, nearly cracking 17 minutes.

It was an impressive showing for the Lions who continue to build confidence heading into a district meet where they will be heavy favorites. West Linn has also emerged as one of the state's top squads this year.

For the girls, Johana Briscoe set the pace, crossing the line in 22nd place with a PR of 19:40. Emily Jordan was next, nearly cracking 21 minutes in her career-best time.

Cailin Guerins, Marija Jozic and Hanna Morford also turned in PRs.

West Linn has steadily dropped time all season and appears to be peaking heading into its final few weeks. The girls will look to make up ground against some strong competition at districts. Grant is the heavy favorite as one of the best teams in the state and Lakeridge and Lake Oswego will also provide a stiff challenge.

The district meet will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Clackamas Community College.
