Boys soccer team advances to semifinals
Blake Hepburn's goal gives the Lions a 1-0 win over Century
The West Linn boys soccer team clinched a berth in the state semifinals on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Century.
The Lions extended their streak of shutouts to 12 consecutive games but they had to work for this one.
West Linn dodged a handful of bullets from Century's dangerous front line, getting a big early save from goalie Zach Nelson when he was off his line. The Jaguars also had a few near misses in the second half that sailed just wide and over the frame.
West Linn would get its lone score with just three minutes left in the first half.
Ryan Barber sent a free kick into the box and defender Blake Hepburn headed it in. That would be all the Lions would need to pull out the victory.
West Linn moves on to play Jesuit on Tuesday on the road. The Crusaders knocked off Grant on Saturday 1-0 on a late penalty kick.
The Lions will be playing for their first-ever trip to the state title game in boys soccer.
