Lady Lions cant find their offense at Clackamas

After shooting the lights out against OC, West Linn goes cold in a tough loss

by: MATTHEW SHERMAN - Genna Hughes looks to avoid a defender in West Linn's game agianst Clackamas Tuesday. The West Linn girls basketball team never recovered from an early onslaught by Clackamas on Tuesday and it failed to find a rhythm on offense against the No. 3 Cavaliers in a 48-27 loss.

It was simply one of those nights for the Lions who are coming off an emotional string of games. Clackamas, which has been perhaps West Linn's most vexing match-up this year, was up for the contest on its home court and used a pair of 8-0 runs to jump out to an early 16-4 lead on the Lions.

Clackamas was strong in transition and worked the ball inside early to its post Erica Pagano.

Meanwhile, West Linn was resigned to jump shots and, unlike in its win over Oregon City, the shots weren't falling.

The Lions were able to right the ship defensively starting in the second half and played well on that end of the court for the rest of the game.

Sidney Kolasinski would prove to be West Linn's only offense in the first half. Kolasinski rattled off 11 straight points for the Lions and finished with all but two of her team's first-half points.

Clackamas' Kaitlyn Reiner knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and a late layup before the buzzer made it 32-13 at the break.

West Linn's defense improved further in the third quarter. The Lions did a much better job denying the ball in the paint and held Clackamas to just six points in the period.

However, West Linn didn't fare much better, only scoring eight points of its own.

The Lions had multiple shots that spun out or glanced off the back rim on the evening and couldn't connect on a key bucket that might spur a run.

Caitlin Malvar scored all eight of her points in the second half but the Lions were never able to get the score under double digits.

The loss puts the Lions a game out of first place now at 4-2 in league with games against Lakeridge and Lake Oswego coming up.
