Girls lacrosse team racks up easy wins

The Lions top Lakeridge and Clackamas by double digit margins

West Linn remains unbeaten on the season heading into another showdown with Lake Oswego. West Linn girls lacrosse team continues to make quick work of league opponents, staying unbeaten with a pair of double-digit wins over Lakeridge and Clackamas.

Against the Pacers, West Linn got off to somewhat of a slow start as Lakeridge was deliberate and executed well in the opening minutes.

The Pacers scored the game's first goal a few minutes into the contest and did well winning early draws to keep the ball away from the Lions.

However, West Linn withstood the early storm and, once it got its first goal from Jazmine Agcaoili capping a breakaway, the Lions started to control the game.

Natalie Bryne then gave West Linn a lead it wouldn't give up. Byrne led the Lions on breakaways for much of the evening and the Pacers simply couldn't match the Lions' speed.

Lakeridge gave the Lions a few problems, forcing eight turnovers and winning the battle for ground balls on the evening.

However, the difference in the game was in the teams' efficiency on offense. West Linn scored on 15 of 22 shot attempts while Lakeridge only scored four times on 16 shots.

Goalie Annalyssa Sassara came up with 12 big saves in the contest.

Byrne and Mariah Gatti each had four goals to lead West Linn while Hanna Morford controlled four draws.

Then, against Clackamas, continued its hot streak, putting the game away early in a 14-3 victory.

West Linn's defense was solid, refusing to give up clean looks at the goal and the Lions were workmanlike up front.

Byrne had five goals and also forced five turnovers while leading the team in ground balls. Gatti also notched a hat trick while Jessica Weinhart had two goals and an assist.

The Lions host Lake Oswego tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. and a win would all but clinch the outright league title for West Linn.
