Hillsboro family flees home fire
A Hillsboro family had to flee a fire in their home Wednesday evening.
No one was injured and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue quickly brought the blaze under control. It caused an estimated $8,000 damage to the duplex at 851 NW 229th Ave.
Aaron Hanson, his wife and four children, aged 3 to 11, were at home around 7:30 p.m. on March 27. He and his wife smelled smoke, went downstairs to investigate, and found flames in the utility room. When the smoke entered their home, the smoke alarms began sounding and the escaped unhurt.
When firefighters arrived a short time later, they found smoke coming from the garage and smoke inside the multi-story unit. They quickly attacked the flames and brought the fire under control in less than 10 minutes.
Fire investigators are looking at the utility room and the appliances in an attempt to determine the cause of the fire. Much of the living area suffered smoke damage. The family will be staying with relatives for the immediate future.
