Tollen Farm and other local vendors now are offering the holiday tour. If you’re looking for the perfect excuse to not only get out of the house but also get some Christmas shopping done, then look no further.

The ninth annual Favorite 5 Country Farms Holiday Tour will kick off Nov. 29 at five different Wilsonville- and Sherwood-area farms. There, visitors taking part in the self-guided tour can choose from among holiday-themed art and décor, as well as artisan jewelry, herbs and plants to find that perfect gift.

“Some people are not coming as customers, some are coming just to explore the countryside, and we just love that,” said Shelby Crecraft, owner of Pure Pizazz in Sherwood and lead organizer for the farm tour. “We like to share what we do in the country, because usually we’re here doing what we do because we like it.”

This year’s holiday tour will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29-30, Dec. 1, Dec. 6-8 and Dec. 13-15. The five farms involved this year are the Barn Owl Nursery in Stafford, Tollen Farm in Wilsonville, Pure Pizazz in Sherwood, Rolling Rock Farm in Sherwood and Hand to Heart Stables in Wilsonville.

The aim of the tour, Crecraft said, is twofold. First, it allows participating businesses to promote their wares and services to the public under the “shop local” banner. It’s easy to do; each of the locations are just minutes apart by car.

Secondly, she said, it also serves as a food drive for the Wilsonville Community Sharing Food Bank — participants must donate a food item in order to take part.

It’s one of two main tours Favorite 5 Country Farms offers each year. The other is held in the spring and is quite different, with flowers and gardens, along with horses and other livestock as its mainstay attractions.

As the winter solstice approaches though, holiday tour takers can still visit interesting farm and nursery owners on their own turf, so to speak. You can even meet miniature donkeys, a specialty of the Tollen Farm.

So bring your outdoor shoes or boots, an appetite for chili or a hot dog, and experience the search for the perfect Christmas tree and some of best the countryside has to offer.
