Sculpture titled 'Nest' now rests permanently out front of Clackamas Community College's Wilsonville campus

SUBMITTED PHOTO - 'Nest' is influenced by nature and meant to signify home.If you've been to the Clackamas Community College Wilsonville campus in the past year, you might have noticed something out front. That something is a sprawling blue sculpture titled "Nest," sitting to the side of the main building's front doors.

While the piece was temporarily placed about a year ago, it's now permanent as the college recently purchased the artwork from local sculptor Jesse Swickard, who has participated in multiple art exhibits through Clackamas Community College's Oregon City campus.

"I was showing my work at the campus at Oregon City and this piece was on exhibit for a temporary show that they have every two years, and the director of Wilsonville campus saw it in passing and she

really enjoyed it," Swickard

says.

"They wanted to purchase the piece but didn't know how, so they worked through budgeting and purchased it to place permanently. They were able to work with the city (of Wilsonville) and get a grant to help, so it was an awesome example of the community coming together."

Swickard says "Nest" is influenced by nature and is meant to signify a home. He says the fit with CCC is perfect, and he hopes it's the first of many sculptures and pieces of art that the Wilsonville campus adds to its grounds.

"It's an educational place and a place for thought and teaching, so I'm very happy

it ended up there," Swickard says. "Their landscape

isn't boring but it's basic,

so this is a huge piece of their building. Their building and

architecture is amazing, but the Oregon City location

has about 25 permanently placed sculptures, and this

is the first at Wilsonville.

This could be a draw for other artists to work with the school."
