“He had a motorcycle helmet and a Speedo and ran across the field,” Sunkle said. “That was kind of weird. We were just watching as a team, seeing what they do, what they run. Then we pull up the tape and see a streaker. We were like, ‘What the ... ?’”

Sunkle was fully dressed for the league matchup Sept. 13 at Randall Stadium, but he did his own streaker impression by running for three touchdowns and throwing for another in the Wildcats’ 42-6 rout of the Broncos.

Wilsonville (3-0, 2-0 in the Northwest Oregon Conference) continued its dominance of Parkrose, improving to 6-0 in the all-time series and bringing its combined scoring edge to a whopping 288-40.

It held onto its perfect record and stayed unbeaten in league play with the victory, which came on the heels of a closely contested win at St. Helens a week earlier.

“We came into the season underrated,” Sunkle said. “Everybody thought we’d go 5-4, but we’re not that team. We definitely have the athletes to do even better than last year.”

Sunkle has been a major factor in the Wildcats’ success, and he added to his resume with an impressive performance against the Broncos (2-1, 0-1).

He rushed 18 times for 250 yards, including 229 in a first half that featured his 84-yard scamper on Wilsonville’s first play from scrimmage.

Carskadon would go on to catch a touchdown pass as Wilsonville rolled to a 42-6 win.“We knew Parkrose was going to stack the box, but we were going to run it anyway,” the senior said. “We were able to get a big run to start and then just drive it down their throats.”

After a touchdown pass from Tyler Carskadon to Lane Hull, Sunkle extended his team’s lead to 21-0 late in the first quarter by taking a pitch from Carskadon and throwing to the quarterback for an 11-yard score.

Sunkle then added touchdown runs of 11 yards and 45 yards in the second quarter to give the Wildcats a commanding 35-6 lead at halftime.

Wilsonville’s defense, meanwhile, shut down one of the best statistical passers in the state. Parkrose quarterback Jonathan Boland, who entered the game with 747 yards through the air, went 7-for-25 with 135 yards.

“Our coaches had a great defensive plan, and we keyed on him,” senior Cooper Whittaker said. “We just fly around and have the mentality of a beast. We go crazy. We just get after it. We feed off each other. It’s high energy. It’s everyone going crazy.”

The defense had its share of highlights, finishing with with five interceptions. Matt Kelly and Charlie Stapleton each logged two, and Grant LaBar had one.

Through three games, the Wildcats are giving up just 8.33 points per contest.

They’re streaking, all right.
