Wildcats snag key league victories over St. Helens, Sandy

It was an eventful — and successful — Tuesday evening for members of Wilsonville’s fall sports teams.

The Wilsonville volleyball team rebounded from its recent loss to rival Sherwood with a thrilling 3-2 (25-22, 10-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13) victory against league-leading St. Helens.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats (12-3, 9-2 in the Northwest Oregon Conference) gained a game in the race for the league title and handed the third-ranked Lions (15-3, 10-1) their first loss of the regular season.

Wilsonville trailed 2-1 after three games but forced a tiebreaker with a 25-20 win in the fourth frame and eked out a 15-13 triumph in the final set.

The Wilsonville girls soccer team, meanwhile, notched its sixth-straight victory with a 4-0 shutout of Sandy on the road.

The second-ranked Wildcats (7-2-1, 3-0 in the NWOC), who have outscored their last six opponents 24-4, will host top-ranked Sherwood on Thursday night. They snapped a nine-game series losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Bowmen last year.

The Wilsonville boys soccer team scored a goal in the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory over Sandy at home.

It was the fourth-consecutive win for the third-ranked Wildcats (7-3, 3-0 in the NWOC), who have outscored opponents 13-4 during the streak. They will face Sherwood on the road Thursday.
